We are in the Amazon! Unbelievable!

Dear California Academy of Health Customer,

In our constant effort to provide your with the best and most eco-friendly products, we have traveled to the Amazon rain forest to get a first-hand look at the Acai and Camu-Camu fields.

We just returned yesterday from our trip to Brazil and the Amazon rain forest.  We visited a collective Acai farm outside of Belem, Brazil.  This farm is part of a group called POEMA and Bolsa Amazonia.  This is a group that promotes eco-education and ethical business opportunities involving the natural resources of the Amazon, in a socially responsible and ecologically sound manner.  They have an entire lab, as part of the university, dedicated to the research of Acai and other indigenous fruits and plants.

We have met with the directors of POEMA, and they have introduced us to so many resources in the area that are healthy, natural, renewable, and sustainable - it's amazing.  We have visited different small businesses in Belem that are producing hand-made natural products that are incredibly beautiful and unique.  In the near future we will be sharing information on a variety of new Amazonian products that we will offer.

We have so much more to tell you about our trip, but we are off to the rain forest to see the Acai and Camu Camu.

Our immune system is a complex network of cells, tissues*, and organs that work together to defend the body against attacks by “foreign” invaders.  These are primarily microbes (germs) - tiny, infection-causing organisms such as bacteria, viruses, parasites, and fungi.  Because the human body provides an ideal environment for many microbes, they try to break in.  It is the immune system’s job to keep them out or, failing that, to seek out and destroy them.

When the immune system hits the wrong target or is crippled, however, it can unleash a torrent of diseases, including allergies, arthritis, or AIDS.
